Relative to my previous comment and proposed idea, i am informed that the government is making the pag-ibig membership compulsory to OFWs, and local wrokers (i am not sure about this, though), but you see, i do not find pagibig memebership more important than the national health insurance that may be handled by philhealth. Philhealth can just expand the coverage, and if necessary inrease membership contribution in accordance to the salary being received. Even if the monthly contribution is in the lowest range, member can still undergo consultation, and be provided medicine is necessary for just a P200/consultation. The Philhealth can always partner with pharmaceutical companies for the medicines - generic or not.
If this health system idea will considered at least on the drawing table, you will see how it will benefit everyone, of the Filipinos, young and old. This will become a legacy on your rein as Vice president, and will ensure your presidency come next election

I think Sen. Mar roxas, you have a very great accomplishment on the very much needed help for the people in the passage of the cheaper medicines' act.

Relative to this, the Honorable Senator MAR may want to consider a National Health Insurance (NHI) coverage for all just like the Taiwan module, I believe their NHI membership is 99% of total populations. The NHI covers everyone, by any hospital, by any doctors. Medicines are also included when a patient consults a doctor for NT$150 (in a public hospital), the patient gets all medication for free. If the patient prefers to go to a private hospital, a consultation would cost about NT$350 to NT$460, inclusive of one month medication, depending on the illness.

How can the government afford this? All employees and employers pay a share for monthly contribution, if one is not employed, he can pay the whole amount of contribution, or he may join an accredited family association to be able to get a discounted monthly premium for the unemployed.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 years ago, and i was lucky to have joined the NHI of Taiwan by paying monthly premium at NT$800 per month at that time. Everytime i see a doctor for cholesterol test, i will undergo blood test, and then go to the doctor for consultation, and will be given lipitor good for 1 month for only a doctor's consultation fee of Nt$380. Anyway, when i was diagnosed with breast cancer, i underwent biopsy, and decided to go for the knife and had my left breast removed. The procedure, the professional'fees for surgeon and anestishologist, medicines, use of medical equipments and icu, and recovery room and a single private room with bathroom - all of it only costed about NT$180,000. NHI paid 70% of the total cost, which is equivalent to NT$126,000. NT$54,000 was on me, luckily i also bought a private accident and hospitalization insurance, and the insurance paid for the balance. In effect i did not spend anything in my operation. And moreover, my monthly follow-up consultations became cheaper, from NT360 to NT$200, inclusive of my tamoxifen good for one month, painreliever, vitamins and dressing of the wound service. Also included in the NT$200, is my regular blood tests, xray, sonogram. Why was my consultation fee reduced to NT$200? it is because the NHI has a classification of illnesses that will qualify a person for discounted consultation fee.

If the Philippine government can pattern our healthcare as such, we will have a universal healthcare that people will forever be thankful. I hope Sen. Mar Roxas can look into this system. I am willing to help gather information and even arrange meeting with Taiwan's NHI officials, so you can better appreciate the program. I am now working in Taiwan and is trying to hold on to my job, because of the Taiwan's National health insurance program. If i lost my job here, and i go back home to the philippines, i am sure my life's savings, which is not much, will be depleted in no time and may not even be enough for my health care. This scenario scares the hell out of me. !

I thinks its best to approach this topic in a more holistic reasoning than just shallowly pining on the concept of rich vs poor and what is due to such. Disease or sickness does not discreminate. it does not chose who it plagues. Only the society, the people classify certain sickness as "sakit ng mayaman" or "sakit ng mahirap". To give due credit to this acievement, we should look at the severity of the illness and how the Law has helped ease alot of financial burden to patients. Yes, some members are right for saying that everyday common ilnesses should also be included but please, dont cloud the relief this law has and will continue to give patients and their families. If anything, i believe that we all strive lift our country's way of life. I believe that this is a bold step towards improvement. I believe that this has given hope to our nation and hope for better health care. Centuries ago, medicines were founded to alleviate if not eradicate diseases. Now we all hope again. Hope that the future can improve. Alot of Filipinos are sick and dying but it doesnt have to stop there. It can get better but we ave to push for it. Sen. Mar has started this for us and Im thankful for that. There is alot of work to be done in the health sector but the important thing is taking the first step. Now we are aware that someone can hear our pleas and is ready to fight for our concerns.

Christian your the man, Kasi nga naman mayayaman sila kaya dapat sila ang paboran ng batas.

i have no beef against these pharma lobbyists, they're just doing their job. what i don't understand is that our congressmen who are supposed to fight for the welfare of the populace aren't brave and dedicated enough to refuse these lobbyists. again it boils down to political will. look at india, they reversed engineered imported meds and made it their own industry. now they're exporting cheap medicines. guess where DOH gets its annual stocks of meds? there's nothing wrong with copying advanced countries' meds, just make it look legit. if you can remember, japan once did this. they bought a prototype TV, disassembled it, then did their own innovations, now they're a powerhouse in TV manufacturing. i say we do the same, buy meds, break them apart, study them, innovate and make it our own, even if we don't do it for commercial or trading purposes. just enough to sustain our country's overall wellness.

the pharmaceutical lobby is one of the most organized and well funded lobbying group in the Philippines. Mar earned my respect when despite the bribes being offered by the big pharmaceutical companies, he still pushed through with the cheaper medicines act

if you're talking cheaper medicine you should be focusing on the most demanded medicines. the current price control is limited to hypertensive and other uncommon diseases. a.k.a. sakit ng mayayaman. why impose price control on these meds, whent he market for them are those who can afford them. the focus must be on everyday medicines like tb, pneumonia for children, etc. if any candidate can pull this one off it must be mar, he's the only one with enough brains and mojos. don't disappoint us.

Mar should make this one of the centerpieces of his campaign. The cheaper medicines act will benefit a lot of Filipinos in the succeeding generations. It seems this was forgotten in all the election hype.

there are only certain medicines that are covered by the cheaper medicines act. also, the price ceiling is set by the president. for awhile, i thought medicine prices would go down drastically. unfortunately, it seems that good legislation would only work if it is coupled with an executive branch that is more concerned with the plight of the people than with enriching themselves and clinging on to power to maintain immunity against suit.

Dear Sir, why are the prices of medicine still expensive? i know some drug stores have taken the initiative and lowered prices, but it does not apply every where.

is it really just Gloria's fault? her non implementation of the law is affecting so many people
