Call Centers

Mar has faith in the skill and character of the Filipino.

That’s why during his time as DTI Secretary, he launched the program “Make IT Philippines”, where he brought the biggest global industry players in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) to the country, encouraging them to build call centers and invest in Filipino talent. Ridiculed for his efforts at the start, the success of the industry, which now directly employs over 400,000 Filipinos, has vindicated Mar.

But the Father of the BPO and Call Center industries knows that there is much to be done. Substandard education in the country, caused by an inefficient and corrupt government, has hampered the competitiveness of the Filipinos, along with the debilitating effects of the global financial crisis.

What is needed to boost the industry and create more jobs? End corruption, establish a fair and equitable society, and choose an honest and upright leadership. That is Mar’s vision for the country.
