LP: No winner yet in VP race

Mind-conditioning going on by rival camp

The Liberal Party today denounced the aggressive mind-conditioning tactics employed by the camp of Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino vice-presidential candidate Mayor Makati Jejomar Binay in their over-eagerness to win the May 10 vice-presidential election.

“This alleged voice of the people trumpeted by the Binay camp has yet to be heard at all. The official canvassing of the presidential and vice presidential votes have not yet started. So there is no voice of the people just yet. Wala pang hatol ang bayan. (There is no public judgment yet), ” LP Campaign Manager Florencio “Butch” Abad said as he slammed the Binay camp’s premature victory assertion.

He said Binay’s camp should first wait until Congress — sitting as the National Board of Canvassers — has finished the canvassing of the presidential and vice-presidential votes and proclaimed the winners of the national election. The NBC count would officially convene on May 24.

“The only purpose of preempting the official results of the VP race is to manipulate public belief that a winner has been declared and is just waiting to be proclaimed. The counting of votes is far from over. In fact, it has yet to begin,” he said.

Abad noted the Binay camp’s penchant for black propaganda and negative campaigning to forcefully instill false information on the mind of the public, the same strategy which the Makati mayor’s campaign operators used during the three-month campaign period.

“Tuloy-tuloy itong public disinformation campaign ng kampo ni Mayor Binay. Paanong aabante ang ating bansa kung ganyang mga klaseng lider ang mamamahala ng ating bansa? (The Binay camp’s public disinformation campaign continues. How will our country move forward if we have a leader like this?) We deserve someone better. We deserve leaders whose primary and ultimate concern is the public’s good, not their personal ambitions, or their family’s political interests or their campaign financiers’ security,” he added.
