Mar believes that education is the great equalizer. Whether you enjoyed the convenience of wealth, or endured the misery of poverty while in school, once you get your diploma, the battle evens out.
Sadly, the education system is in a gloomy state of affairs because of an uncaring government. The lack of funding, coupled with rotten governance and destructive politicking, truly makes for an appalling situation.
That is why Mar is fighting for the Omnibus Education Reform Bill (Senate Bill No. 2284) to be put into place.
The bill will reform the sector to fill up all resource gaps caused by gross mismanagement, introduce the concept of “mother tongue as medium of instruction”, revise the basic education curriculum to make it at par with global norms, provide training and support for our teachers, institutionalize a food-for-school program, lift state colleges and universities (SUC’s) to the ranks of excellence and provide alternative learning systems to those with no access to formal education.
A lot needs to be done but for Mar, there are no shortcuts because the future of our children can never be compromised.
